This weekend I went to Sydney to see the family and it was my first time driving in such a busy city. Holy crap how scary people are. Sydney drivers are insane and I'm surprised there aren't more accidents. A lot of people keep going through yellow lights, some even go through red lights. I had to follow my Dad because I didn't know the way to my grandparents place and he started driving like a maniac too.
I figured out what it is. When people are driving in the city, they only think about how fast they can get from A to B without any consideration of other drivers and some road regulations. I much prefer driving in the country and regional areas, mainly because I'm scared I'll have an accident.
I also discovered on the weekend that my car doesn't like going up hills. You have to pick up a lot of speed before you try nd make it up the hill. When your on the hill, you get to hear horrible over revving coming from the car (it's an automatic) and it's very jolting when it changes gears. That's what happens when you have a 10 year old Ford Festiva. I'm thinking of saving up and buying a new, more reliable car.
Also I just came back from Schoolies on Thursday which was amazing. We went to Pacific Palms near Foster which is a splendid area. We actually used our time there and didn't just drink and sleep. Me ad one of the girls got up in the morning and went for a walk on the beach. We encountered stingray beached on the sand so we rescued it by carrying it with a pair of thongs and screaming every time it started thrashing out of fear of getting stung. We also went snorkeling and saw 5 stingrays and an eel so we made the assumption that we did in fact save the stingray and reunited him with his wife and kids :)
No, I wasn't the only girl on the trip. These were the only people that would stay up till sunrise on our last proper night while everyone else went to bed at 11pm. Apparently I'm hardcore compared to them, go me!
In music news, I'm really liking Metric at the moment, there song "Gold, Guns, Girls" is probably my favourite. Also I have Paramore's new album
Brand New Eyes playing on repeat. Their music has really evolved and has more of an edge to it. "The Only Exception" and "Playing God" were originally my favourites, but after hearing it a few times "Brick By Boring Brick" and "Looking Up" are getting up there.
In book news, I'm currently reading
The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey
Niffenegger. I've read about a third of it and I can't get into the plot. Its to jumpy and I'm not a fan of books that title every few paragraphs to identify perspective change. Has anyone read it? Please tell me it gets better as it goes along. Also next on the reading list is
Birds Without Wings by Louis de Bernieres, which I have high expectatios as I thoroughly enjoyed his book
Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
As always, comment me your recommendations/opinions/random stories.
